The president of the Association of Thai Travel Agents, Sisdivachr Cheewarattanaporn, recently proposed reducing the duration of visa-free stays in Thailand from 60 to 30 days. In his opinion, most tourists do not stay in the country for more than 20–30 days, making a two-month visa-free period unnecessary.

This is not the first time that restrictions for travelers have been discussed. In September 2024, the governor of Phuket suggested allowing entry to the island only for tourists with a bank balance of at least 300,000 baht and redistributing part of the tourist flow to other regions. In October, the introduction of a tourism fee in Thailand was again brought up for discussion.

If you are planning a longer trip to Thailand, you should keep an eye on possible changes to visa regulations. The Thai government is increasingly discussing stricter entry requirements, and a reduction of visa-free stays to 30 days could come into effect at any time. To avoid unexpected restrictions and stay in Thailand as long as you wish, it is advisable to apply for a visa in advance.
