ESTA requirement for VWP travelers entering the USA by land.
This new policy will be introduced on May 2, 2022. From that date, visa-exempt travelers will still be able to enter the United States by land without a visa, but they will require an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization).
ESTA allows the holder to enter the USA for business or tourism purposes and stay for up to 90 days. Since 2008, this travel authorization has been mandatory for entering the United States via air or sea ports of entry. It will now also become a requirement for land entry.
The mandatory ESTA for land entry into the USA will replace the I-94W form (Non-Immigrant Visa Waiver Arrival/Departure Record), which is currently required for entry at all northern and southern land borders.
You can apply for any type of USA visa (tourist, business (B1/B2), ESTA, etc.) at any time via www.visacenter.at.
