The idea of a common tourist visa for ASEAN countries (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), often compared to the European Schengen Area, has been repeatedly discussed in regional talks for years but has not yet been implemented.

The proposal was first introduced in the early 2010s with the goal of strengthening Southeast Asia’s competitiveness as a global travel destination. It envisions allowing foreign tourists to enter and travel across multiple member states under a single authorization.

Currently, ASEAN consists of ten member countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam—states that could potentially become part of a unified visa system in the future.
